This is the first time I saw Philip Seymour Hoffman in a movie, showing an unforgettable range of emotions as he jokes, first flippantly, then sympathetically, with the older, big time gambler at the far end of the dice table.

From 1968, this is the granddaddy of all movie chase scenes. I’ve watched a dozen times and the action still holds up. Lalo Schifrin’s intense background score brings even greater intensity to this masterpiece.

A good reason that Veronica Lake faded into obscurity by 1949. “Oh, Michael, my darling, hold me.” See if you agree.
